For immediate release January 5, 2011 Michael Waltrip Racing decides to take a scientific approach to Pitstop analysis. They have contracted with HDV-Sports to provide a complete video analysis system for their 2 NASCAR Sprint cup teams the #56 of Martin Truex Jr. and the #00 David Reutimann. The HDV-Performer 5.5 software sets the gold standard for time and motion Pitstop analysis. The software can capture as many as four video streams simultaneously and provide the Pitstop coaches with synchronize multi-camera playback. The camera hardware typically consists of one overhead camera and two wireless cameras mounted to the tire changers helmet.
As soon as the car leaves the pit box, the Pitstop coach can replay the Pitstop and perform segmented timing analysis to 100th of a second. Each individual tire exchange can be scrutinized to trim time for the next stop. Team members can watch each lug nut as they spin off the five studs. Next they can see how well the tire carrier “sticks the tire” and then how fast the tire changer can tighten all of the five lug nuts.
The HDV-Performer 5.5 software also allows the Pitstop coach to combine all three video images to one. From here it's a coach can export this video file into several popular formats such as IPad, iPhone, Windows media player, Apple QuickTime, YouTube. These files then can easily be e-mailed or provided to the team members via Dropbox.com.
